A Councillor's
Comments - September 2007

The September 2007 meeting of the Council took place
in my absence but I record some of the agenda items and decisions made.
Annual Accounts 2006/2007
It was noted that the Council's Auditor (Moore Stephen), had approved and signed
the accounts for the last financial year and that the Annual Audit was now
closed.
Internal Audit Report The Council then looked at the satisfactory result of this
audit.
CCTV Steering Group
Councillor Tuite gave a verbal report on the meeting she attended on 6`h August.
At the Council meeting, what was under discussion was the possible movement of a
camera from Church Alley, but the decision not to move it was taken because of
the considerable cost and the fact that where it was now, it had resulted in an
arrest.
Requests for Financial Support
At the last Council meeting in July there was a request from the Staploe Medical
Centre for support for counselling services for Soham residents, but as this was
part of a wider scheme called the Cogwheel Trust covering other places, the
Council wondered if any support they gave would be spread elsewhere; as a result
the council asked for more information. The response was that all funds donated
for Soham residents would be ringfenced by the Trust and spent on the costs to
Soham people. So far 36 Soham people have been helped and the Council, which was
always in favour of the scheme were glad to donate a sum of money in the light
of the information received.
Soham Town Forum
Various points were raised at the last meeting of the Forum which concerned the
Council. One was the suggestion the commons committee attend the next Forum
meeting to update them on what is happening. There was the point raised that the
Council could give more to support Viva. Also, young people in Soham needed more
facilities including a requested brick wall to kick a ball against.
Kindest Regards
George Ginn
Soham Town Councilor
